The Mid-West Hackney Association and American Saddle Horse Breeders of Illinois Futurities kick off the Illinois State Fair Society Horse Show Session I with the best of young Hackneys and American Saddlebreds at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 5. The Mid-West Hackney Association will feature the Limited Breeders Weanling Stake on Wednesday evening August 7 at 6:30 pm. The UPHA Chapter 10 Classics for Hackneys and American Saddlebreds are a showcase throughout the week of young prospects in the industry for all to see.
This competition is anticipated by all in the the historic and newly renovated Coliseum of Champions. Ricky Harris, Somers, Connecticut, will officiate the American Saddle Horse Breeders of Illinois Futurity, and Erik Kirsch, Monroe, Wisconsin, will judge the Mid-West Hackney Futurity. Both will share officiating duties for the balance of the weeks classes.
The American Hackney Horse Society Youth Medallion Showmanship in Hand is offered. There are a total of six American Hackney Horse Society Youth Medallion classes offered at this event in addition to a full schedule of Hackney classes suitable for every Hackney enthusiast.
Roadster horses, Welsh ponies and futurity, Shetland ponies, and open breed division additionally have new options within their full slate of classes available for prospects and industry veterans. There is a full complement for all with open, amateur and juvenile classes. The Land of Lincoln Breeders Award classes are offered to promote Illinois-bred equine at this historic show.
