Clark Clouse of Clouse Stables announces the expansion of his operation in Versailles, Kentucky to include Riding Instruction. Clouse, who holds over 35 World Championship and Reserve World Championship titles and was given the UPHA Young Trainers Award in 2008, feels that onsite riding instruction is just the enhancement his operation needs. Beginning January 28, Maryta Montgomery will begin teaching riding lessons. Montgomery’s program will focus on current “in house” customers as well as newcomers to the equestrian world. Montgomery has been active in the Saddlebred world since the riding bug bit her in 1992.
Maryta Montgomery got her start at Patty Milligan’s stable in Dallas, TX. After only 6 weeks of lessons, she competed in her first academy show and there was no looking back after that. Says Montgomery, “the minute I hit the ring at an Academy Show, I was certain that I was absolutely, positively hooked. The next thing I knew I was the proud owner of my first ASB, CH Beau Stetson. After a successful career with CH Beau Stetson, Maryta purchased the game and talented mare Harlem’s Half Moon. Maryta campaigned the mare under the Biggins Stable banner for eight years and what a great eight years they were. They came away with many wins including, Lexington Jr. League, Shelbyville and a World Championship at Louisville.
After selling Harlem’s Half Moon, Montgomery took a bit of time off and just couldn’t stand the absence of horse flesh, leather and liniment. At this point she made her way to Clark and Shelia Clouse where she has been for the last 4 years. Now the Clouse’s have asked Maryta to start a riding program. Ms. Montgomery will be offering private lessons and group lessons to beginners, more accomplished riders and the Clouse’s current customers. Maryta brings her experience in the business world to the Saddlebred World. Lessons she learned in her own Event and Meeting Planning business, as an owner of a dance studio and as a retired executive of 7 Eleven, will be put to good use as she helps the next generation of equestrians make their mark in the ring.
